Split, not sawn.
Drag it. Raj Green from the yard, cleft along its bedding the way the stone wants to break, so no two faces match and the surface still grips when it’s wet. Calibrated to 22 mm underneath.

Indian sandstone
Split along its bedding planes, the way the stone wants to break, so every face is riven and no two slabs match. It comes up richer wet than dry. Kandla, Raj, Rippon, Autumn and Fossil are quarry districts, not brands.
22 mm · calibrated · seal it or let it weather
Limestone
Fine-grained and dense enough to saw and hone flat. Black Limestone is near-black wet and charcoal dry; Sinai Pearl carries fossil detail in a pale ground.
20 mm · riven or honed · hand-dressed edges
Outdoor porcelain
Pressed clay fired until it turns glassy: near-zero absorption, so it doesn’t stain, freeze or grow algae. Calibrated, so it lays flat off a thin bed.
20 mm · R11 · calibrated
Indoor porcelain
Thin, rectified tiles for inside: marble, stone and concrete effects with a matt or gloss face, cut square so the joints stay fine.
8 mm · rectified · by the box
Granite
Dense, hard and near-impossible to scratch: the stone for drives, edges and borders. Silver and black setts and cobbles, priced at the counter.
Setts 300 × 200 · cobbles 100 × 100
Split-face stone
Strips cleft from sandstone and quartzite blocks so each face breaks differently. Laid in a running bond it reads as a dry-stone wall.

Sourcing
From the quarry
to 34 Mark Road.
Sandstone hand-split in the quarry districts of Rajasthan. Limestone sawn and honed from Sinai. Porcelain pressed in Spain and Gujarat. No middlemen, so the price on the slab is the price of the slab.
Every range is on pallets at 34 Mark Road, not in a catalogue. Come and stand on it, hose it, take a piece home. What you see in the yard is what arrives.
Each pallet is checked in and checked out by the people who run the yard. If it isn’t right, it doesn’t leave.

Laying, choosing, sealing, cleaning — written by the yard, not a content agency.
Porcelain or sandstone? Choosing for a UK garden.
The honest trade-offs between riven Indian sandstone and 20 mm vitrified porcelain, so you pick for the garden you have rather than the photo you saw.
5 min readHow to lay Indian sandstone.
Full bed, primed backs, 10 mm joints and a fall of 1 in 80. The method that stops slabs rocking and stops the patio holding water.
7 min readLaying 20 mm porcelain outside.
Porcelain is unforgiving of shortcuts. Slurry primer, a solid bed, tight joints, and the right jointing compound.
